The title of my Magazine is going to be Persona, I’ve chosen to call it this because it represents the motive of my magazine, which is to focus on each reader as an individual, by providing them with a monthly source that can cater for their entertainment needs. Persona will do this by highlighting and exploring different genres; at an affordable price. The Genres I will cover in Persona Will be R’n’B , Hip Hop and Soul, I’ve chosen to do a range of genres because there aren’t many magazines available on the market that supplies this range in one magazine.
The content of the magazine will include interviews of artists in a question and answer style and also in an article form. The interviews will be especially with new up and coming artists in the UK because it will give them a chance to make their voices heard in the industry and with fans. I would also like to include pages about events and concerts that will be happening in the country. This will benefit the artists, their fans and the magazine brand because it will encourage people to buy the magazine and to actually attend their shows.
The artists that I want to be included in the magazine will mainly be from the UK because I think it is important to support the UK music scene. Artists like Bobbi Lewis, Cashtastic, Lauren Cato, Amplify Dot, Roxxxan, Marsha Ambrosius , Floetic Lara, stooshe and Abel Miller will all be featured in the magazine.
I believe that my magazine is going to be different from other magazines available because it’s one of the only UK based magazines that focus mainly on up and coming artists from these genres. It also has special features such as the events page that tailors for people all over the country.
The Design features will be appropriate for both male and female readers; the colour scheme will be Purple, black and white. My target audience will be for young people from ages 15-34, I don’t think that the magazine should have a social class restriction because I think it should be accessible to all at an affordable price of about £3. In this modern age of technology magazines can be shared /published online allowing easier to access at a much cheaper price for the brand and the customers, therefore this is another way that I will publish my articles on an independent website. Another benefit of this would be that I could have people subscribe to persona and the latest information would be posted on a daily or weekly basis. The reader just has to have an interest in any of the genres to enjoy and got the most out of the magazine.
PersonaMag.com will be will be published by sonic, who also publishes the websites for Rwd magazine, Neu magazine and Click music. The actual Persona magazine will be published by IPC Media who are also the publishers of NME magazine.
The theme of my magazine is London and to help to highlight that all the talent and artists are from the UK.
Influence of case studies
My case studies helped me to come up with ideas of the design for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I used two different rwd magazines (one of them was in the case study that I evaluated and the other was a hard copy that I got) I also used copies of vibe magazine. The colour schemes in the magazines I’ve looked at have been continued throughout the magazine I will also continue this feature though Persona too. In one of the magazines I saw hash tags which are associated with twitter to help the magazine get the readers to interact with the article and get the topic trending. This was a constant feature throughout the magazine depending on the artist featured, the context/theme. I think this is a good idea because it’s a great way to get the audience involved and to promote on a popular social networking site.

these are a few designs that I found, with the help of my audience I got some good feedback about each one and I have now come up with the idea of my final design. i think im going to go with the second design.
It’s a creative way to illustrate the genre because it’s
like a finger print and it reflects an individual and highlights the idea that someone’s
persona is specific to them.
“It’s edgy and intriguing and makes you want to know more
about the theme and content” i also thought it was good because it doesnt just illustrate one genre it Incorporates the rage.
This one is also one of my main options because it defiantly reflects the
genres of the magazine especially soul.
“This design is eye catching because it looks like a cross
between marble and lightning.”
I’ve decided not to use this design because I think that it’s a bit too feminine for a unisex magazine
