This is the
second juice issue for Vibe Magazine, Azealia Banks and Diplo share the cover. The colour scheme is red, black, grey and
white. The masthead is the biggest boldest text on the whole cover it is also
the only text that is red and faded into black this is so it stands out to the
audience. Although Diplo’s head is slightly covering the ‘B’ in Vibe the
audience still know what the brand is because it’s successful and known
worldwide. The artist is covering the masthead therefore it suggests that they
are selling this edition by encouraging their fans to buy the magazine. I think
that the masthead is mostly red because it portrays a powerful and strong image;
the black adds a professional look to the cover it also compliments the
costumes and make up of the models. Azeaila Banks has quite subtle make up on
but the black lipstick portrays her as someone who lives life on the edge and
is rebellious; her costume is revealing and focuses the attention of the
audience on her legs her high socks makes her look sexy but classy. Diplo is
dressed in a suit; this is showing him to be very business like and serious.
The main image is a long shot, this is to show as much of their costumes as
possible and to show a bit of the scenery, the sand indicates that they may be
on a beach; the lighting looks natural and is coming from the top left of the
frame, it has created shadows of both the models. Both of they’re costumes are
from a 2012 range by Dolce and Gabbana.
Above the masthead is a skyline; this is to show the audience that this edition is apart of the juice series. It is also a rhetorical question used to engage the audience in this and some of the other issues. The selling line for this magazine is a quote from Diplo is says, “She’s the rapper, he’s the DJ” this shows the image they wish to provide their audience in this particular edition. The selling line is positioned vertically to the left of the masthead just under the website advert.
There are only three cover lines on the cover of the magazine, the first one is about Justin Bieber, he is the main topic in this cover line, this is indicated because his name is in a slightly bigger font it is also in red while the rest of the cover line is in black. In the second cover line is about suggested upgrades, the 34 stands out mostly compared to the white text beneath it because it gives an exact number of how any ideas they are going to include in the article. The third one is all in the same font but the colour of the topic is different to the description of MMG. Vibe editors have used a variety of different ways to make the main topic in each cover line stand out to the reader this is in an attempt to interest them and make them want to know more. All the minor cover lines are situated on the far left in a column all in individual textboxes. Directly below that are the barcode and the price, within the white box, the date line is also vertical along the left side of the page is out side of the white box but to the left.
The main Selling line is about Azealia Banks and Diplo it is positioned in the bottom right of the page. ‘Azealia Banks’ is written in smaller white text compared to ‘Diplo’, which is written in bold red. It illustrates the idea that diplo has been in the music industry for longer than her and deserves maybe more recognition, this is reflected in the main image it looks like Diplo is taking more of a back seat and allowing Azealia some time to shine, as she is quite a new face in the urban industry. ‘Crash the dance party’ is written in the smallest font within the main cover line, it is the title of Diplo’s song featuring Azealia Banks.
