Magazine Stand

I took these photos of a magazine isle in my local Tesco store. The variety was limited in terms of genres and brands; I could easily recognise the issues of KerrangQ, Rock and NME magazines, which were available for sale.
The magazine isle was divided into about five sections and the music magazines were included in the computing section on the very bottom shelf.  They had all been placed together among other magazines about films, photography and game consoles.

All the magazines were staggered into four rows; Kerrang was on the first row so the buyer can see the full front cover.  The cover is very busy with lots of pictures within the cover lines as well as the main image. The masthead is bright yellow and stands out against the blue background. The main image overlaps the masthead, however because Kerrang is such a well-known brand their audience will still be able to identify it.  The main cover line is bold and written in white this is to catch the attention of the reader quickly.
On the second row is NME magazine and Q magazine; I can only see the masthead and a few of the cover lines because the magazines on the row in front are covering them. NME Magazine has a clear bold masthead, which is white so it can grab the readers’ attention against the orange background. One of the cover lines on the magazine says ‘The Best…’, which encourages curiosity, whets the apatite for more and is used to entice the buyer to actually purchase the magazine. The skyline is giving the readers a chance to win something; the word ‘Win’ is white which also helps it to be more noticeable.
Q magazine is easily identified because it is the same on each issue of the brands magazines; all Q magazines have the same upper case white Q placed on a red square despite the background of the main image. One of the cover lines is ‘2012 and the most astounding moments’, this is near the top of the front cover because it makes readers want to view the relevant page.

There were no music magazines on the third row however Rock magazine was located on the fourth row. It was right at the back but I could see more of the front cover than I could of the ones on rows two and three. I think this is so that it can get an equal amount of expositor.
One cover line on Rock magazine says ‘2 free CD’s’ this is to urge their target audience to buy the magazine in order to receive their two free CD’s.
